Floating Montana

Tubing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding

Vacation means relaxation, and our crystal clear waters provide. The simplest way to float down a mellow stretch of Montana water is to jump in an inner tube and let the river carry you (and perhaps a cooler of cold drinks) through scenic canyons, pristine wilderness and open country.

If you want to get a little more technical, try stand-up paddleboarding on one of our lakes, reservoirs or rivers.

Leave the gear and shuttling to us. We'll supply the equipment and the transportation to and from the river. All you have to do is free your mind and float.

Big Sky

Charming 10-acre Lake Levinsky lies at the entrance to Big Sky Resort. Rent a paddleboard from the marina and put in some relaxing lake time at the base of Montana's chicest ski resort.

Bozeman Area

About a half an hour west of Bozeman, the Madison River boasts the most popular tubing experience in Yellowstone Country. Spend an afternoon floating 6.5 miles of warm, calm waters from Warm Springs to Black's Ford. Madison River Tubing offers tubing trips that include shuttles, tubes and PFDs. If you prefer to go on your own, you can buy or rent tubes or paddleboards from them.

Stand-up paddleboarders will want to drive 12 miles south from Bozeman to the stunning Hyalite Reservoir. Located in Hyalite Canyon in the Gallatin Mountains, this 206-acre waterbody beckons boaters of all kinds. A no-wake rule keeps the chop down, allowing paddlers to focus on the gorgeous vistas.

Big Boys Toys and Round House Sports in Bozeman rent tubes and SUPs.

Livingston Area

Tube or paddleboard the Yellowstone River's highly popular 11-mile "Bird Float" from Grey Owl to Mallard's Rest between Emigrant and Livingston. Pull over at Loch Leven for a shorter, 7-mile excursion.

Easily accessible, Dailey Lake lies just south of Emigrant. Offering views of Dome Mountain and the Absaroka Range, this lake offers 364 acres of laid-back water play.

Rubber Ducky River Rentals in Livingston rents SUPs and tubes; they also offer a shuttle service.

Red Lodge Area

Paddle a mellow 6-mile stretch of the famous Yellowstone River from Holmgren Fishing Access to Itch-Kep-Pe Park in Columbus or dip your paddles into scenic East Rosebud Lake in the Beartooth Wilderness south of Roscoe. Seek out Absaroka River Adventures in Absarokee for more information and all the rental equipment you need.

North of Roberts, Cooney State Park offers paddleboard rentals so you can explore the beginner-friendly waters of the Cooney Reservoir. Views of the Absarokee and Beartooth mountains provide a majestic backdrop to this popular destination.

West Yellowstone Area

Only minutes from West Yellowstone, 6500-acre Hebgen Lake makes for a convenient paddle playground. Hebgen Lake is famous for being the site of a 1959 earthquake that led to the formation of Quake Lake downstream. Rent a SUP from Kirkwood Marina and you can set off immediately from Paddlecraft Cove. Frequent winds make it wise to stick to the bays.
